Is the Great Indian Cricketing abyss at its deepest? Or the English drilling engineers intend to go deeper with their chisel and hammers.
I call the English contingent – ‘Engineers’ , solely because, their precision in decimating the Indian team almost seems mathematical.
Instead of a well formulated equation, this is turning out to be a pure corollary where the inevitable is not far off sight.
Test Cricket called as the longest running soap opera (@harshabhogle – TED talk) is reaching its epic ending. Not as a dramatic as the Dark Knight rises, but the Indian cricketing team’s fortunes have been no less than a drama.
Any great movie, starts with a great cast.
We have more than a Few Good Men (Tom Cruise & Jack Nicholson’s 1999 classic) led by a Captain who, when he started could do no wrong. All he touched, be it the T20 World Cup, IPL, ODI record or the penultimate culmination -2011 Cricket World Cup turned gold. But then has Midas now lost his touch ? O Captain !My Captain!
Time for finger pointing now.
1. Easiest duck or you would hope so, are the Old foes and veterans.
Statutory warning: Old foe hacking comes with repercussions.
Kris Srikanth knows all about it, following VVS Laxman sudden retirement.
Let’s be honest. You can’t mess with Gods in India! Be it the 330 million residing in the holy cow’s stomach or India’s star studded A-listed cricket players.
I know, that’s not how the Australians or other professional teams do. But the common man loves his Cricket and its Cricketers. And with the Emperor at its helm, Who is trying?
2. Then come the scape goats. If you look at the last year or so, in the Indian Test Cricketing calendar, barring a Virat Kohli no one has really done well.
So who should be the next one on the guillotine?
Alright then, the chopping block is all shined up and today we shall be serving the head of the apparently unfit Yuvraj Singh for supper.
Harmless and delicious. After all he is recovering from Cancer, and needs more playing time.
And then there was one…
3. Duncan Fletcher – Man who never spoke or wasn’t allowed to is a question that would remain unanswered.
A shrewd tactician to captains and an avid listener to players.
A coach revered by the English for transforming their mindset in regaining the Ashes in 2005.
With the butcher’s knife being sharpened for the next head, his definitely seems to be next in line.
It’s time.
Time to tame the very Phoenix he helped rise back from its Ashes. Only time will tell.
Nobody has really asked fro Fletcher to be sacked yet…..but he needs to take responsibility for such a poor performance as well. It is a combination of factors that have caused India’s decline and he is not faultless….
Its a team game so very little onus is with the coach. But when a team is doing badly for the last 12 months consistently questions must be raised against every player, support staff, physio, everyone.
